That’s some of what we want when we work at our computers. The makers of the programs we’re discussing this week aim to help us attain these goals. Each of the programs does or will to varying extents, depending on exactly what we want.
Windows Live Search
The name is confusing. Microsoft has a Web search service called Windows Live Search. And last week, Microsoft announced plans for a desktop search application that searches computer hard drives, corporate networks, and the Internet — also called Windows Live Search.
The application will be free to download as an add-on to Microsoft’s current desktop search feature. While it will be included in the next version of Windows, the corporate network search ability will only be available with Microsoft’s SharePoint server software.
